Fingerprints FAQ
Fingerprint Checking
How can I check my fingerprint?
There are several reliable resources available for checking your fingerprint:
- whoer.net
- browserleaks.com
- Our built-in checker: app.indigobrowser.com/WhatIsMyIP
Use 2-3 different checkers for enhanced reliability, as some free services may provide inconsistent results.
Browser and Updates
Why should I update the browser core?
Updating your browser core in Indigo mimics the behavior of regular users updating their Chrome or Firefox browsers. Here's why it's important:
- It doesn't trigger any restrictions or logouts
- Over 80% of trackable users regularly update their browsers
- Using the latest core places you in a large segment of typical users
- Enhances your safety and authenticity
Privacy and Security
Can websites see the WhatIsMyIP page?
No, websites cannot access cookies from WhatIsMyIP or identify you as an Indigo user. This is protected by the Same-origin policy (SOP):
- Websites can only access cookies from their own domain
- Indigo cookies are visible only to Indigo
- Each website recognizes only its own cookies
- This is a fundamental browser security principle
WebGL and Canvas
Why is the real WebGL and canvas fingerprint better than the masked one?
By default, noise is disabled in Indigo profiles for several reasons:
- Websites can read your device's real WebGL and canvas hashes
- Many popular websites react negatively to 100% unique readouts
- WebGL and canvas fingerprint hashes aren't unique
- Using real hashes places you within a group of users with similar hardware
Multiple devices worldwide share the same hardware setup, making your real hash part of a larger, natural-looking group.
Multi-Device Usage
Will fingerprints stay the same across different computers?
Different hardware can cause fingerprint mismatches. Here are solutions for maintaining consistent fingerprints across devices:
Option 1: Virtual Environments
Run Indigo on identically configured virtual machines (VMs) or on a VPS with hardware fingerprints set to Noise and Mask.
Option 2: Physical Hardware
Run Indigo on identical computer models with the same hardware, drivers and OS.
Option 3: Mac Environment
Run Indigo on similar Mac devices.
Can I use the same profile on different computers simultaneously?
We don't recommend simultaneous profile usage because it can:
- Corrupt your session data
- Result in hardware fingerprint mismatches
Use groups for browser profile distribution to avoid simultaneous launches.
Technical Questions
Can websites see my MAC address?
No, websites cannot detect your MAC address through a browser because:
- It's part of the low-level network stack
- MAC addresses don't propagate between subnets
- Browser security prevents access to this information
Why does my font hash remain the same?
It's normal for font hashes to remain constant in both regular and Indigo browsers. Here's how it works:
Font Checking Process
- Your computer has standard fonts (e.g., A, B, C, D, E)
- Websites check for specific fonts (e.g., A, C, E)
- Present fonts are hashed; absent ones are ignored
Example Scenario
- Adding new fonts (X, Y) doesn't change the hash
- Websites still only check the original set
- Hash remains consistent unless standard fonts are removed
Removing standard fonts to change the hash may compromise your fingerprint.
What This Means
Having identical font hashes in regular and Indigo browsers is expected and doesn't compromise your security.
